How to Care for Quartz Worktops

Quartz worktops have become a popular choice for homeowners everywhere. Not only are they practical, but they look the part too. With a luxury feel that suits everything from contemporary industrial styles to classic and traditional kitchens, quartz has earned its place as a go-to material choice for kitchen worktops.

It is important, however, to know how to care for quartz worktops. Here’s a guide to keeping your quartz worktops looking pristine for years to come.

How to Clean Quartz Countertops

Quartz is, in fact, a very hygienic material. Because it is very dense and compact, bacteria does not grow or spread as readily as it might on other materials. This makes it quick and easy to clean.

We recommend cleaning your quartz countertops daily with some warm water and a non-abrasive cleaner or neutral soap. Avoid cleaning products that contain harsh chemicals such as bleach or chlorine. It’s a good idea to do a test patch first if you are using a new product on your quartz, just in case. Once you have applied your chosen cleaning product, grab a soft cloth and wipe down the surface. Easy!

When you turn to Bellagio Stone to install your perfect quartz worktops, we will leave a complimentary specialist cleaner on your product. This is suitable for all materials and can be purchased from us in the future if you love it and want to repurchase it.

Do Quartz Worktops Stain?

Quartz is actually relatively stain-resistant, especially compared to marble, granite and other natural-stone surfaces. That being said, it’s a good idea to wipe down any spills immediately.

Up to 10% of quartz is made with artificial resins and pigments. This means that they will react when they come into contact with certain substances. For grease stains, we recommend applying a dishwasher soap and rubbing it with a sponge until it disappears. Repeat the process if necessary and rinse with a generous amount of water and dry the affected area.

If you wish to remove limescale, use cleaning vinegar and a damp sponge. If the stain persists, you can use a limescale remover that has been diluted with water. Never leave it on for more than two minutes and repeat the process if necessary. Again, rinse with plenty of water and dry with some paper.

The best way to avoid any stains on your quartz worktops is to prevent direct contact with liquids as much as possible. Don’t use your worktop as a cutting board, keep it clear from anything highly acidic and keep the surface around your sink as dry as possible.

Can You Put Hot Pans on a Quartz Worktop?

Whilst quartz can withstand mild heat, placing hot pans on a quartz worktop can damage it. This is because natural quartz material is combined with a small amount of special resin to form a countertop. This resin can only withstand temperatures of around 150 degrees. Plus, a sharp difference in temperature (between hot and cold) can damage the surface.

If you are taking a pan directly from the oven or your stove, avoid putting it down directly onto your worktop. You could potentially cause permanent damage. Instead, you could invest in a hot pad or metal trivet, as these are designed to withstand the heat and save your countertops from burning.

How to Repair a Quartz Worktop

There may come a time where you wish to repair your quartz worktop. Whilst quartz is more resistant to stains, chips and scratches than other stone worktops such as marble and granite, accidents do happen and it does have its limits. Whilst it may be tempting to try and repair your worktop yourself, it’s always best to contact a professional to repair your quartz worktop.

It is always worth checking to see if your quartz worktop is still under warranty. At Bellagio Stone, all our stone surfaces come with warranty as standard, so there’s a good chance we’ll be able to help you if you are in need of repairs. Either way, we will certainly be able to help and advise you on any issues around damage if you get in touch.

Caring for your quartz worktops really is straightforward, thanks to their practicality and durable nature. However, prevention is always better than cure. Treat them with care and they will thank you by looking brand new for many years.
